The first lockdown was incredibly hard for me and my family. One of the hardest parts was my daughter showing signs of anxiety out of the blue for the first time in her life. Amongst other symptoms, she was worrying about things that hadn't previously bothered her, found it really hard to make decisions and needed more attention and reassurance than normal. Luckily it didn't last long. She's young, hadn't been feeling anxious for very long and as a therapist I knew how to respond to her to help her overcome the anxiety and get back to her normal, bubbly self.
Life has been tough for many children recently, for lots of reasons including the pandemic. And whilst we can't control everything that happens to them, we can control how we support them to deal with anxiety.
Excessive worrying is one of the most common childhood illnesses now (second only to Asthma) and anxiety in childhood has been linked to a greater risk of low self-esteem and mental health problems in later life. Whilst we can't determine whether our child worries or not, we can determine whether this gets worse with time or not. That's why I'm running this workshop so as many parents as possible can learn how to teach their children how to manage worries and get on top of their anxiety.
I will show you some simple and easy-to-use strategies that you can use with your child to help them worry less and feel less anxious and learn the best way to talk to them about their worries.
